Who is Kate the Earthling?

Meet Kate Shooltz:

Artist. Author. Biophilic Living Advocate.

Kate Shooltz is a lover of the Earth and believer in a biophilic lifestyle - one enriched by nature. Through her moss artwork she brings the beauty and benefits of nature to indoor spaces. By using preserved plants that require no water or sun, her creations are accessible to all regardless of their green thumb or environment. Her new children’s book Kate the Earthling is a whimsical story inspired by Kate’s own childhood that hopes to connect the youngest of Earthlings to nature early in their lives.

In 2015, Kate was introduced to the concept of biophilic design while studying for her Master of Real Estate Development at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. On that particular day in class, she felt her life’s path change. She knew in that moment her purpose was to share her love of nature through biophilic design. After graduation she began experimenting with living plant walls, creating test walls for friends and family in her spare time after work. In an effort to make her creations accessible to anyone, she shifted her focus to solely preserved plants.

Since launching Kate the Earthling in 2018, Kate has been creating one-of-a-kind pieces for clients and spaces all over the country. Her work has been featured on the cover of National Park Magazine for Olympic National Park’s Terminus art project, on Bravo TV’s Vanderpump Rules and Family Karma, in the Italian magazine Biophilia Natural Trend and other online publications such as SuperMoss and PureWow.
