Preserved moss is real moss that has been preserved using glycerin and dyes to maintain the vibrant look and soft feel of living moss. It is not dried moss - it feels soft and pump. Due to the preservation process it remains looking and feeling alive for years to come without the care required of living plants.

Depending on the design I work with sheet, mood, pole and reindeer mosses, most of which is sourced from within the United States through moss suppliers who harvest, preserve and color the moss.

Because my work is created with preserved plants it requires absolutely NO water or sunlight. In fact, it should never be exposed to moisture at all - my pieces are only created for indoor display and should not be hung in humid environments such as a bathroom with a shower. As far as sunlight goes - heat and UV rays can cause the color to fade over time so it is best to avoid hanging your piece in a spot that is exposed to direct sun.

When kept in proper conditions, preserved mosses typically last 10-15 years. However, its lifespan depends on how it is handled and where the art is displayed. For example, exposure to harsh elements such as direct sun, prolonged UV light and heat will cause color fading. Preserved moss should never be misted, watered or displayed in an environment with high humidity. If your artwork remains out of direct sun and avoids moisture it will stay looking lush and vibrant for years to come.

My artwork is created for indoor display only and should never be hung outside in the elements. Since heat, UV light and moisture will damage the art, avoid walls where direct sun will hit the art or where humidity may be an issue (ie: a bathroom with a shower).

After review of your initial inquiry I will contact you via email. We will then begin to discuss the design until I feel I have a clear direction of what you'd like. Some clients have a great deal of input and ideas, while others are not quite sure what they'd like - both positions are fine and lead to beautiful creations!

Once we have a clear direction I will do a hand-drawn project concept sketch and continue that exercise until you are happy and ready to commit to a design. With that finalized design I will coordinate with all necessary parties to determine the total pricing quote. Other parties may include woodworkers, shipping companies/installers or collaborating artists. Once the pricing quote is approved, I will provide you with my standard contract for custom commissions that will include information specific to your project.

With the signed contract I require a 50% deposit to commence work and add you to my schedule. The remaining 50% is due upon completion of the piece.

Each piece I create is unique and thus, each have different pricing parameters. My commissions range in size and complexity so unfortunately there is no average price. My prices are determined by the materials used, labor and design hours (for me as well as any collaborating woodworkers or artists), sales tax and shipping costs or delivery and installation.

Timing for each project depends on the scale and complexity of the piece as well as my current schedule at the time your contract is signed. I am typically booked with commissions a few months out so it is possible your work will not begin for a few weeks, or sometimes months, even at the time of your contract signing. That being said, each project is different and I do my best to schedule new commissions as soon as possible. Typically, once a project is officially scheduled it takes several weeks between frame building, ordering materials and the actual creation of the piece.

It is important to note that a project is not officially added to my schedule until a contract is signed. Although it may be in the design and pricing phase, no work will actually begin until a contract has been signed and a deposit is paid.

Yes! I do offer installation services. Sometimes I am able to install the work myself, but for larger or more complex projects I will bring in professional art installation teams. If you choose this route I will include all costs for the delivery and installation services in the pricing of your commission.

Unfortunately, no. I do not recreate past pieces as I like to keep each client's creation special and unique to them. At the time of designing, that piece was made for that client for specific reasons and I do not feel it is right to make it again for someone else. However, I am happy to use a past creation as inspiration for something new! If there is a piece in my portfolio that you love please include that in your inquiry and I am happy to use that in our discussion.

On that note: All designs, sketches and drawings created and provided by me and Kate the Earthling LLC are confidential, proprietary information and protected by copyright law. Taking my designs or sketches and providing them to another artist or company for them to make is a violation of this and will result in legal action.

The only care your piece will require is occasional light dusting. This can be done using a compressed air duster similar to what is used for cleaning a computer keyboard.

Yes! I've created one-of-a-kind moss walls for clients all over the United States, in both residential and commercial spaces. My commercial portfolio includes art for multifamily buildings, restaurants, offices and salons. I've created large lobby accent walls, hanging amaranthus chandeliers, mossy pots and banquets and company logos. Whatever your business needs I can create it!

While I prefer to design my art where I can, I understand this is not always feasible for a commercial project that is well down the line as far as design. With a background in commercial real estate development I am very familiar with the full development process and all that goes into it.
