Every one of these starts as a real place. Mel Sage laser-cuts baltic birch into a topographic map, the actual rise and fall of a landscape cut layer by layer, and then the frame comes to me and I fill the contours in with preserved mosses. Neither of us could make one on our own, which is most of the reason I love them.
